Soldering an alliance!

Recycling is the key component to the success of Smith Metals and we take our philosophy outside of our commercial activities and apply it to our extensive community programmes. By giving back to the local community and investing time and money into local charitable organisations, Smith Metals have established a genuine interest in reducing local environmental and social pressures.
In 2008 Smith Metals became the first ever patron of Bolton and Bury based environmental organisation, Groundwork. The association help improve the local community by developing programmes that aim to support local businesses and residents.
The corporate environmental link Smith’s offer to Groundwork enables a new avenue of strategic support, which in turn uses the scrap metal dealer’s knowledge of recycling to add precedence to various environmental issues.
The second of the organisations receiving a corporate pledge from Smith Metals is the Bolton Lads and Girls Club. Retaining the title of the largest Youth Club in the U.K, BLGC offers local children under the age of 18 a place to experience activities and skills they may not have ready available in their everyday life.
James Cubbon, Business Development Manager at Smith Metals commented:
“Our partnership with both Groundwork and the Bolton Lads and Girls Club has allowed us to pledge not only a financial boost but a knowledgeable outlet that can be moulded to suit the needs of both organisations.
“We are very proud to be associated with both and hope to develop and expand on our local presence going into 2009.”
